If you have been to church any time since last fall, you have noticed the large glass jug in the middle of the lobby. The purpose of it was to involve the children in the building project for THEIR new children’s wing. Each Sunday, we see little ones emptying their pockets, or the heart containers, or begging for coins from adults to feed the big jar of money. Well, it has most certainly been a worthwhile project for the kids….AND the adults.
There was quite a lot of excitement March 8th among those who counted the money from the jug! By the time the paper money was counted, there was nearly $500. Then on Monday, Rich Davis struggled to carry and cart 5 buckets of coins to the bank to be counted. Even though the tellers were a bit wary of their task ahead of running the coins through the machines, they were ecstatic in the afternoon when he went back in for the count! There was nearly $1500 in coins!!! When he floated in the door at the church, he gathered a crowd of happy staff members! And, then, an additional $45 from the youth who had been saving for the project was added to the total!
The result: The kids have raised $2,041.76 so far in that glass jar!!!
This money has been added to the Building/Future Development Fund toward the expenses for the Children’s and Youth Departments.
We are so proud of our kids and the way they have given to the Lord’s work. What a tremendous lesson this is for all of us. Even if it is only pennies, nickels and dimes, they add up when we all work together for one cause. Never underestimate the power of a kid or a penny!
The jar will continue to be in the lobby until the project is finished. Watch for those little ones hovered around to give their money. Ask one of them what they are doing and they can tell you. They know!
The kids are reaching out to us and teaching us good stewardship. And do you know where they learned this?….from the adults in their lives…adults like you who show them the new building and tell them the reason for it. There is at least one father in our congregation who faithfully takes his daughters by the hand each Sunday and walks them through the new wing of “their” new Sunday School. Catch the excitement of these kids who look forward to a building where they can have more room and more opportunities to learn of Jesus and His miracles. And pass on that pocket change to a kid to put in the jar! Let’s re-fill it!!!
